Senior Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office-based roles require onsite presence Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $243,290–$295,250 USD annual base pay.

What you will do

• Design, architect, implement, and scale one or two core data platform frameworks.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, data science, and product engineering teams to align platform capabilities with governance and product requirements.
• Optimize engine internals, query planning, state management, memory usage, serialization, throughput, and reliability.
• Design, test, and operate infrastructure features running on Kubernetes across cloud environments.
• Embed AI/ML capabilities and LLM-powered data discovery, generation, and autonomous self-service platform interactions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building, designing, testing, and maintaining production-grade large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep experience with at least one or two of Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino, Druid, Airflow, or data catalog and metadata systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Go, or Scala and a record of writing clean, highly performant backend code.
• Experience operating and troubleshooting data infrastructure at scale on Kubernetes in AWS or GCP.
• Ability to influence technical direction, mentor engineers, and drive alignment across teams.
• Bachelor's degree equivalent in computer science or sufficient professional experience; United States work authorization is required, and future H-1B sponsorship may not be supported.

Nice to have

• Open-source contributions in the data infrastructure ecosystem.
• Experience operating infrastructure at consumer-internet scale for more than 100 million users.
