Environmental Chemist

Location: Corvallis, Oregon, United States; conditions also list Salem, Oregon. Onsite laboratory role.

Salary: $50,364.00–$85,618.00 per year for full-time employment.

What you will do

• Prepare and analyze soil, water, air, waste, and tissue samples for chemical contaminants.
• Apply EPA-approved methods and NELAC 2016 standards across environmental programs.
• Operate GC-ECD, GC-FID, and GCMS instrumentation for volatile and semivolatile organic compounds, pesticides, Aroclors, fuel hydrocarbons, and emerging contaminants.
• Support analytical, quality assurance, and technical activities for USEPA programs, including Superfund and Clean Water and Clean Air Act programs.
• Work independently and collaborate with laboratory team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of laboratory experience using EPA-approved methodologies and instrumentation, preferably GC-FID, GC-ECD, and GCMS.
• Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills with critical-thinking ability.
• U.S. citizenship is required under the federal contract.
• Ability to pass an EPA background check and obtain access to U.S. federal property.

Nice to have

• Solvent extraction experience using EPA methodologies, CLLE, SPE, ASE, and related techniques.
• Experience in laboratories accredited for environmental analyses under TNI, NELAC, or state programs.
• Experience working at federal facilities.
• Laboratory Information Management Systems experience, including Promium Element LIMS.
