TL;DR
Senior Data Engineer (Scala) (Healthcare Data): Building data engineering solutions for Medicare and Medicaid Quality Payment Program claims and cost measures with an accent on Scala development, ETL, data validation, and quality checks. Focus on analyzing large healthcare datasets, designing reliable data workflows, and collaborating on requirements under U.S. public-trust and East Coast-hours constraints.

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates must reside in, be authorized to work in, and perform all work from the U.S. East Coast hours apply, with meetings potentially starting at 9:00 AM Eastern Time. Some travel may be required for in-person Program Increment Planning events.

Salary: $98,614–$167,644 annually

What you will do

  • Document and communicate requirements for data engineering work and coordinate with external partners.
  • Write Scala code for the Claims Cost Measures Team.
  • Develop Python scripts for ETL and data analysis.
  • Perform data validation, write SQL queries, and improve data quality checks.
  • Update and enhance data documentation.
  • Participate in Scrum ceremonies, test meetings, and regular Jira and Confluence activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software or data development, including 3+ years in data engineering.
  • 3+ years of professional coding experience with Scala or similar languages.
  • 2+ years of experience with a SQL dialect.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
  • Must reside and work in the United States, be authorized to work in the U.S., and have lived in the U.S. for three full years within the last five years.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Medicare or Medicaid claims data and healthcare coding systems.
  • Experience with Spark, PySpark, or SparkR for large-scale data analysis.
  • Advanced SQL querying and database management experience.
  • Git/GitHub, Jira, Confluence, Agile, or Scaled Agile Framework experience.
  • Experience building modern software products and adapting to changing priorities.
