Senior Engineer, Ontology Platform

Location: Remote within the United States, including New Jersey and other specified states

Salary: USD 165,000–175,000 base salary annually

What you will do

• Translate business ontology definitions, including entities, relationships, and attributes, into implementable platform structures.
• Design and maintain validation, reconciliation, mapping, and rules logic that identifies discrepancies between source data and the canonical ontology.
• Build ingestion connectors, platform services, and APIs for source onboarding, mapping, configuration, and rules management.
• Design data models, schemas, ETL/ELT transformations, and pipelines for ontology-mapped data.
• Own source and business-use-case onboarding from initial mapping through production deployment.
• Monitor production systems, respond to incidents, troubleshoot pipeline issues, and maintain runbooks and operational documentation.

Requirements

• 5–9 years of software or data engineering experience involving data modeling, pipelines, and production support.
• Strong SQL, ETL/ELT, relational or graph data modeling, and scalable data pipeline experience.
• Experience building integrations or connectors for external systems with schema variation and source-data quality issues.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into technical structures and communicate with business stakeholders and engineers.
• Experience with monitoring, incident response, and troubleshooting for data systems.
• Hands-on use of AI coding agents such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot as a core development workflow.

Nice to have

• Experience with ontology, knowledge graphs, master data management, rules engines, or reconciliation frameworks.
• Familiarity with graph databases or semantic web standards such as RDF, OWL, and SPARQL.
• Experience with Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Iceberg, Trino, or similar data-platform technologies.
• Financial services data experience and experience mentoring others in agentic development workflows.
