Economics Specialist (Entry Level, Hybrid, Summer 2027)

Location: Hybrid from the Reston, VA headquarters or Waltham, MA office

Salary: $60,967–$103,643 per year

What you will do

• Conduct applied research and support regulatory, economic, and policy analyses for national-level safety, environmental, and other policy programs.
• Analyze rulemaking documents, academic literature, and technical reports to support program design and implementation.
• Perform cost-benefit, statistical, econometric, and other quantitative analyses of industry responses to regulatory changes.
• Develop analytical methods, databases, and models in tools such as R and Excel to quantify regulatory costs, benefits, and impacts.
• Draft and edit rulemaking support documents and provide general program support.
• Collaborate with economists, scientists, engineers, and clients while contributing to business development.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with data analysis, modeling, and scripting tools such as R, Stata, or Python.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently under strict deadlines.
• Knowledge of economic, environmental, or survey data; policy and regulatory analysis; federal rulemaking; or federal environmental, labor, and transportation safety regulations.
