TL;DR
Urban Planner / Designer (Urban Planning): Supporting community revitalization, brownfield redevelopment, adaptive reuse, and economic development projects across the U.S. with an accent on site reuse strategies, data analysis, and community engagement. Focus on developing plans and conceptual designs, synthesizing demographic and market data, and creating client-ready visualizations and outreach materials.

Location: Remote within the United States, with a preference for proximity to Waltham, Massachusetts, or Denver, Colorado. Willingness to travel as needed is required.

Salary: $60,967–$103,643 per year.

What you will do

  • Support small area plans, downtown revitalization strategies, site reuse strategies, and site plans.
  • Contribute to projects involving mixed-use development, transportation, housing, open space, adaptive reuse, and public realm improvements.
  • Conduct research, collect data, and perform qualitative and quantitative analysis for redevelopment projects.
  • Analyze demographic, real estate, consumer spending, and workforce data and create visualizations, charts, tables, and presentations.
  • Prepare reports, market analyses, conceptual designs, community engagement materials, fact sheets, and other client deliverables.
  • Support in-person and virtual stakeholder outreach, workshops, charrettes, and community meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, urban design, or a related technical field.
  • At least two years of experience supporting technically oriented community revitalization, economic development, brownfields redevelopment, or infill development projects.
  • Strong analytical, written, oral communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of planning and policy topics including land use, economic development, multimodal transportation, real estate, climate adaptation, and affordable housing.
  • Proficiency with Excel, R, or other quantitative analysis software.
  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite and willingness to travel as needed.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in urban planning, urban design, or a related technical field.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, CAD, Rhino, SketchUp, Lumion, or Enscape.
  • Familiarity with building codes, zoning codes, ADA Standards for Accessible Design, and related standards.
  • Experience with multifamily housing, mixed-use and community-oriented projects, adaptive reuse, landscape design, or public realm design.
  • AICP certification.
