Backend Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid in Biel, Switzerland, with mobile working within Switzerland. International remote working is possible for up to 25 days per year.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and maintain backend features for cashless payment services.
• Work on applications processing more than 20 million transactions daily.
• Collaborate with product owners and business engineers to translate client needs into technical solutions.
• Write clean, documented, testable code and participate in code reviews.
• Own deployment, monitoring, and third-level incident response, including on-call duty.
• Improve application performance, scalability, reliability, monitoring, and deployment infrastructure.

Requirements

• University degree or equivalent higher education in information technology.
• Strong programming proficiency in Jakarta EE.
• Fluency with relational databases and experience with Git, Maven, Quarkus, Docker, Kafka, and Linux.
• Ability to break down complex problems, drive solutions, and work effectively in a cross-functional team.
• Proven ability to work under pressure during major outages.
• Fluent English required.

Nice to have

• French, German, or Italian language skills.
