Payroll Officer

Location: Remote in the UK; hybrid working options are also available.

Salary: £29,000 per year; permanent, 37.5 hours per week.

What you will do

• Manage a portfolio of customers’ monthly payroll operations from start to finish.
• Ensure staff are paid accurately and within specified deadlines.
• Update payroll systems with pay scales, pension rates, National Insurance rates, and tax thresholds.
• Calculate pay adjustments, holiday pay for leavers, and statutory payments including maternity and paternity pay.
• Prepare accurate payments and reports for external stakeholders, including HMRC.
• Maintain compliance with GDPR and ISO27001 data protection standards.

Requirements

• Degree-level education and/or a relevant payroll qualification.
• Previous experience in payroll processing; education-sector experience is beneficial.
• Strong understanding of HMRC requirements, tax, National Insurance, and statutory deductions.
• Experience with auto-enrolment pension schemes.
• Proficiency in Google Suite, data analysis, multitasking, and accurate work under pressure.
• Proactive use of AI to improve work processes.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of the Local Government Pension Scheme or Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
