Director of People Operations (AI)

Location: Sydney, Australia; hybrid with 2 days in the office

Remuneration: AUD 140,000–AUD 180,000 per year, excluding superannuation; equity offered.

What you will do

• Own People Operations end to end across global payroll, employee lifecycle, talent acquisition, IT provisioning, and compliance.
• Design the People Operations architecture across Rippling, Remote, Ashby, and connected automation workflows.
• Build AI agents and automations that reduce manual administration while maintaining appropriate data guardrails.
• Create frameworks and self-serve playbooks for levelling, compensation, performance, learning and development, engagement, promotions, and hiring.
• Lead a team consisting of a Senior Talent Acquisition Manager and a People Operations Manager.
• Partner with the CEO, Finance, Legal, and department leaders on workforce planning, compensation, employee relations, and organisational design.

Requirements

• People Operations or HR leadership experience through a high-growth, high-change period.
• Systems architecture experience designing how HR platforms and their data work together without manual administration.
• Hands-on experience building HRIS, ATS, automation, or AI agent workflows.
• Deep knowledge of payroll, employment compliance, employee relations, compensation, benefits, recruitment, and people analytics.
• Experience writing frameworks and playbooks that managers can run independently.
• Experience handling payroll and employment compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ideally Australia, the UK, the US, and Canada.

Nice to have

• Series B or growth-stage scale-up experience.
• Experience at a 100–300 person scale-up or with systems and process transformation.
• Experience with Zapier, Airtable, or similar no-code automation tools.
