R&D Process Development Engineer (Advanced Manufacturing)

Location: Onsite in El Segundo, California, United States. Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.

Salary: $108,000–$154,000 annually, depending on level and qualifications, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own the maturity of assigned R&D manufacturing processes from technical demonstration through successful transfer to production.
• Develop process development plans, readiness criteria, operating windows, critical parameters, acceptance criteria, control plans, and response strategies.
• Design experiments and analyze process data, including sampling, measurement methods, statistical analysis, and sources of variation.
• Qualify inspection and measurement methods and establish evidence for repeatability, yield, cycle time, capability, and commercial practicality.
• Conduct process risk assessments and FMEAs, define equipment and automation requirements, and help resolve equipment and measurement variation.
• Create specifications, work instructions, SOPs, troubleshooting guidance, and training materials while supporting validation, operator training, initial production runs, and production transfer.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, process development, applied R&D, or a related technical field.
• Experience developing, characterizing, or improving physical manufacturing processes.
• Strong applied statistical skills covering experimental design, data analysis, process variation, measurement system analysis, and statistical process control.
• Ability to translate experimental results into engineering specifications, operating limits, process controls, and manufacturing procedures.
• Must be able to work onsite in El Segundo, California, and meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements or obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience taking new technologies or manufacturing processes from laboratory or prototype development through pilot or production introduction.
• Experience with DOE, ANOVA, regression, Cp/Cpk, control charts, capability analysis, process FMEAs, control plans, SOPs, and qualification plans.
• Experience with advanced manufacturing, additive manufacturing, ceramics, photopolymer processing, investment casting, metals processing, or related technologies.
• Experience in an R&D or startup environment with rapidly changing equipment, process definitions, and technical requirements.
