Lead External Relations Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: Hybrid, Kansas-based, with regular attendance at the Capitol Building in Topeka, KS during legislative sessions and interim committees

Salary: $70,100–$126,200 per year

What you will do

• Build and maintain relationships with state legislators, healthcare advocates, county governments, associations, providers, members, and community partners.
• Monitor, influence, and advance healthcare policy initiatives in accordance with health plan, government, and contractual guidelines.
• Lead government-facing events and initiatives that promote the health plan and strengthen its partnership with the state.
• Respond to stakeholder and constituent inquiries, including issues raised by legislators and community advocates.
• Assess legislative and community-related risks affecting members, providers, and program priorities, then implement mitigation strategies.
• Support membership growth initiatives and coordinate the work of contract lobbyists and state associations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Government Affairs, Business Administration, Communications, Political Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in government relations, legislative affairs, or community relations.
• Ability to work in a hybrid Kansas-based role and attend the Capitol Building in Topeka regularly during legislative sessions and interim committees.
• Strong political acumen and ability to work effectively across political lines.
• Ability to independently identify and manage emerging legislative issues.

Nice to have

• Kansas legislative experience.
• Healthcare or Medicaid experience.
