Senior Molten Salt Scientist (Fusion Energy)

Location: On-site at the headquarters in Denver, Colorado, United States. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, current U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted refugees or asylees.

Salary: $170,000–$210,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operation of the Molten Salt Laboratory.
• Build technical capabilities for Flibe and other molten salts, including chemistry control, materials compatibility, corrosion, thermophysical properties, tritium behavior, impurity control, processing, and instrumentation.
• Define the development roadmap from static molten-salt experiments to forced-flow integrated-effects test loops.
• Develop thermal-hydraulic test environments, corrosion tests, jet nozzle tests, and mass and heat exchanger testing.
• Translate experimental results and scientific insights into fusion system architecture, design guidance, and operational requirements.
• Manage collaborations with external laboratories, universities, vendors, science departments, engineering teams, and operations.

Requirements

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 12+ years of experience with experimental high-temperature fluids, molten salts or liquid metals, experimental R&D, or complex nuclear or fusion systems.
• Deep experience with high-temperature fluids, thermal-hydraulics, industrial-scale systems, and hands-on laboratory development.
• Experience designing experiments that increase component or system technology readiness.
• Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary scientific or R&D organizations, including mentoring and developing technical teams.
• Must have U.S. citizenship or nationality, a current U.S. Green Card, or lawful admission as a refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

• Experience with fusion safety, regulatory requirements, beryllium safety, commercial nuclear industry, fusion experimental facilities, or fusion plant commercialization.
