TL;DR
RF Engineer II (RF and Microwave Hardware Design) (RF/Microwave, Aerospace): Designing and delivering compact, high-performance RF modules for autonomous airborne and ground systems with an accent on active and passive circuit design, RF PCB development, laboratory verification, and production transition. Focus on analyzing measured hardware performance, diagnosing instability and interference issues, and integrating RF hardware within demanding size, weight, power, cooling, and environmental constraints.

Location: Seattle, Washington; on-site laboratory and hardware-development environment

Company

hirify.global develops intelligent autonomous systems designed to protect service members and civilians.

What you will do

  • Design RF and microwave modules from requirements and architecture through schematic capture, layout, bring-up, verification, qualification, and production release.
  • Develop active and passive RF circuits, including amplifiers, filters, multiplexers, switches, limiters, couplers, attenuators, detectors, and frequency-conversion stages.
  • Design RF front-end assemblies that meet gain, noise figure, output power, linearity, efficiency, stability, isolation, and out-of-band rejection requirements.
  • Perform circuit and electromagnetic analysis using ADS, AWR, HFSS, or CST, and correlate simulations with measured hardware performance.
  • Create and review RF and mixed-signal PCB designs, then plan and execute laboratory characterization and automated testing.
  • Diagnose instability, oscillation, intermodulation, self-interference, desense, thermal drift, mismatch, leakage, and electromagnetic coupling issues while collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and test teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 1+ years of relevant post-undergraduate experience for L2 or 2+ years for L3; demonstrated technical capability and scope are more important than years alone.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, or debugging RF or microwave circuits, modules, or PCB assemblies through measured verification.
  • Knowledge of S-parameters, impedance matching, transmission lines, stability, gain, noise figure, linearity, compression, nonlinear products, isolation, and cascaded RF performance.
  • Experience with controlled-impedance RF PCB layouts, grounding, shielding, component placement, laboratory instruments, and calibration methods.
  • Ability to work on-site in a laboratory and hardware-development environment.

Nice to have

  • RF front-end experience in airborne, defense, space, robotics, or other high-reliability systems.
  • Experience with GaN or GaAs power amplifiers, MMICs, LNAs, switches, limiters, frequency converters, or high-selectivity filters.
  • Experience with Altium Designer, thermal and RF packaging design, EMI/EMC qualification, and design for manufacturability and test.
  • Experience developing characterization or data-analysis tools with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Ability to obtain an S//SAR security clearance if required by the program.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on work in a laboratory and hardware-development environment.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, thermal, avionics, communications, antenna, manufacturing, and test engineers.
  • Participation in environmental and electromagnetic qualification, supplier engagement, ground testing, and flight testing.
  • Opportunities to contribute to design reviews, share technical knowledge, and support interns and less-experienced engineers.
