TL;DR
Firmware Quality Assurance Engineer Co-Op Intern (C/Medical Devices): Testing embedded firmware and supporting C#/.NET desktop applications for Class II cardiac monitoring devices with an accent on system-level verification, requirements traceability, and regulatory documentation. Focus on designing test protocols, investigating field failures, troubleshooting hardware and firmware issues, and verifying root-cause corrections before release.

Location: San Francisco, California, United States. Full-time, six-month assignment from January through June 2027; candidates must be available for the full assignment. Housing assistance or a housing stipend is not provided.

Salary: $25.00–$35.00 per hour; the assignment details also state $35.00 per hour.

What you will do

  • Perform manual system-level, functional, and acceptance testing of embedded C firmware and supporting C#/.NET Windows desktop applications.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and other teams to define and implement testing strategies.
  • Develop verification test protocols and document results against functional and customer requirements.
  • Review requirements and design documentation for technical accuracy and testability.
  • Analyze field failures, establish repeatability, investigate root causes, and verify corrections before release.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress; Electrical or Computer Engineering is a plus.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment such as power supplies, digital multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and firmware issues on circuits and hardware.
  • Exposure to QA principles and processes, preferably in medical devices or another regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of verification, validation, and documentation requirements, including regulated frameworks such as Title 21 CFR Part 11.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, independent work, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
