Financial Underwriting Lead (Fintech)

Location: New York City, NY, hybrid; office attendance is expected three days per week. Employees based in the Singapore office work onsite five days per week.

Annual base salary: $110,000–$140,000 in New York. Compensation outside New York is based on the applicable market and location-based pay range.

What you will do

• Underwrite new merchant applications by analyzing financials, funding, runway, burn, unit economics, business models, and liability exposure.
• Make documented approve, decline, or conditional decisions and set reserves, holdbacks, volume caps, and exposure limits.
• Run portfolio reviews, update merchant terms, maintain watchlists and escalation paths, and track realized losses.
• Build and maintain underwriting policies, scorecards, and exposure reporting suitable for bank and auditor review.
• Use AI and data tools to accelerate file review and decision-making.
• Partner with Sales, Treasury Operations, Risk and Compliance, support bank and acquirer diligence, and collaborate cross-functionally.

Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience in corporate debt analysis and underwriting across venture debt, growth lending, revenue-based finance, private credit, commercial banking, or startup lending.
• Experience underwriting startups and privately held companies, including forming judgments from incomplete or unaudited financial information.
• Experience owning and defending credit decisions through written memos and committee or decision-maker review.
• Fluency in financial statements, cash flow analysis, runway, burn, and unit economics.
• Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling and work with large transaction-level datasets.
• Experience using AI to improve finance and analysis workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, marketplaces, Merchant of Record models, chargebacks, refunds, or settlement risk.
• Knowledge of rolling reserves, holdbacks, chargeback ratios, and card scheme monitoring.
• Experience building or improving underwriting policies or scorecards.
• Experience with BigQuery or similar tools.
• Background in digital goods, gaming, creator economy, subscriptions, or prediction markets.
