Database Consultant (Database Administration)

What you will do

• Assess and characterize an estate of approximately 1,700 relational databases across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Analyze database versions, configurations, lifecycle status, performance, capacity, availability, security, monitoring, and backup and recovery practices.
• Identify risks, classify databases by criticality, and define actionable recommendations, remediation plans, and modernization roadmaps.
• Support upgrades, migrations, consolidations, cross-platform database movements, and complex performance and availability troubleshooting.
• Design scripts to automate database discovery, assessment, inventory, and administration activities.
• Prepare technical reports and executive presentations while collaborating with infrastructure, application, cloud, and operations teams.

Requirements

• +3 years of experience as a DBA, Database Consultant, or in a similar role.
• Hands-on experience with one or more of Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or IBM Db2, plus knowledge of other relational database platforms.
• Experience with database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability and disaster recovery, monitoring, security, upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle management.
• Experience working with large-scale enterprise database estates and transforming technical findings into clear recommendations and improvement plans.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently and mentor junior team members.
• Experience with SQL, T-SQL, or PL/SQL and scripting in PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python.

Nice to have

• Experience across multiple database platforms and heterogeneous environments.
• Background in database discovery, health checks, assessment, risk classification, rationalization, consolidation, modernization, or roadmap development.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
