What you will do
- Perform venipuncture and other laboratory specimen collections according to age-related standards and department protocols.
- Receive physician orders, enter laboratory tests accurately, and verify test result receipt across multiple systems.
- Process specimens by labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging them for transport.
- Provide patient communication and post-phlebotomy care while following the AIDET model and patient-safety practices.
- Monitor refrigerator temperatures and quality-control records, report issues, and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Communicate specimen-collection problems and outstanding draws, charges, and results to laboratory and physician teams.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, or at least one year of healthcare phlebotomy experience, or CMA certification.
- Ability to maintain safe biohazard-handling practices and comply with laboratory, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Strong patient-service, communication, teamwork, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Willingness to complete continuing-education requirements and competency assessments.
Nice to have
- Experience with a broad range of patient types.
- Experience processing and transferring specimens and operating a centrifuge.
- Familiarity with medical EMR systems and medical terminology.
