TL;DR
Cable Splicer - Outside Plant (OSP) (Fiber Optics/Telecommunications): Installing, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cable systems supporting secure DoD communications with an accent on outside plant infrastructure, field maintenance, and telecommunications testing. Focus on fusion and mechanical fiber splicing, diagnosing cable faults, maintaining aerial and underground systems, and documenting network infrastructure in compliance with BICSI, OSHA, and DoD requirements.

Location: Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, USA; non-remote

Salary: $29.42 per hour

What you will do

  • Install, splice, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cable systems.
  • Maintain aerial, underground, and direct-buried outside plant telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Perform fusion and mechanical fiber splicing using OTDRs, optical power meters, cable analyzers, and other test equipment.
  • Inspect manholes, handholes, pedestals, telecommunications closets, MDFs, IDFs, and outside plant facilities.
  • Read and update cable records, engineering drawings, splice diagrams, inventories, and as-built documentation.
  • Support cable route planning, infrastructure upgrades, modernization projects, and government customer requirements.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance are required.
  • Five or more years of experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing outside plant telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Experience with fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cable systems, including installation, testing, repair, and fiber fusion splicing.
  • Knowledge of BICSI standards, OSHA requirements, telecommunications practices, and industry regulations.
  • Ability to work independently in a field environment, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, and operate company vehicles with a valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and telecommunications technical documentation.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, federal government, or military telecommunications infrastructure.
  • BICSI, FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician, OSHA 10, or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with manholes, handholes, pedestals, duct banks, infrastructure records, and modernization projects.
  • Strong customer service, communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
