Software Engineer (PLC / OT)

Location: Richen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Hybrid work is available, with required travel to the manufacturing site in Richen and occasional in-person events within Germany and Austria. Working from abroad is permitted for up to 40 days per year.

What you will do

• Understand and explain the existing vendor PLC and OT codebase to the product team.
• Evolve MES-like systems integrating OPC-UA with PLCs toward a Software Defined Manufacturing architecture.
• Develop solutions supporting full simulation of upcoming manufacturing orders.
• Monitor, maintain, and improve software uptime, update reliability, latency, and efficiency.
• Bridge digital product delivery with physical logistics and manufacturing systems.
• Define and monitor SLAs, SLOs, OEE, and other KPIs for critical systems.

Requirements

• Experience as a software or automation engineer working with PLC or other OT technologies.
• Experience operating and supporting large-scale software or OT systems.
• Willingness to adopt code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and other modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with operationally focused companies, ideally in logistics or manufacturing, and an understanding of the commercial impact of downtime.
• Proficiency with PLC programming and OPC-UA; familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and SLA/SLO practices.
• Willingness to travel to Richen and to team events within Germany and Austria.

Nice to have

• TIA19 experience for PLC programming.
• KRL experience for robot programming.
• MQTT and Python, C++, or C# experience.
