TL;DR
R&D Engineering Co-op Full Time Intern (Wearable Biosensors): Developing and evaluating early-stage wearable biosensing technologies through feasibility studies, prototype testing, user studies, and sensor data analysis with an accent on biomedical engineering, signal processing, and rapid hardware prototyping. Focus on designing experiments, characterizing electromechanical prototypes, analyzing physiological data with Python or R, and communicating technical findings in a regulated medical device environment.

Location: San Francisco, California; full-time, on-site assignment from January through June 2027

Salary: $25.00–$35.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Support early-stage research and feasibility studies for wearable biosensing technologies.
  • Conduct user studies with human subjects and collect sensor data.
  • Develop and execute test protocols to characterize prototypes.
  • Apply signal processing and data analysis techniques using Python or R.
  • Rapidly prototype electromechanical hardware platforms, fixtures, and basic 3D models in SolidWorks.
  • Work with laboratory equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies while contributing to intellectual property development.

Requirements

  • Current student available for the complete January–June 2027, six-month assignment in San Francisco.
  • Pursuing a PhD or master’s degree in biomedical, mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, prototyping and debugging skills, and an understanding of mathematics, physics, and basic statistics.
  • Experience or familiarity with physiological parameters and sensing, such as ECG, pulse oximetry, or respiratory flow and effort.
  • Understanding of hypothesis-driven experimental design and diligent lab notebook documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
