Staff Data Engineer (AWS/Python)

Location: United States; fully remote within the U.S.

Salary: $170,000–$220,000 annual base salary, plus a target annual bonus of 15% and long-term incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Define the long-term data architecture vision, roadmap, and design standards for the virtual power plant ecosystem.
• Design and implement fault-tolerant batch and real-time streaming infrastructure processing telemetry from millions of connected devices.
• Collaborate with application and analytics engineering teams on architecture and delivery.
• Lead database architecture and performance tuning across PostgreSQL Aurora, AWS Redshift, and query engines.
• Set standards for data pipelines, monitoring, data quality, uptime, infrastructure management, and on-call support.
• Mentor data engineers and lead architectural reviews, technical growth, and cross-functional alignment.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software and data engineering experience with architectural leadership at scale.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience building and operating high-volume batch and real-time streaming architectures using technologies such as GCP Pub/Sub, AWS Kinesis, AWS Lambda, Apache Kafka, and Apache Flink.
• Expertise in scalable data lakes, including AWS S3, Iceberg, AWS Glue, and Delta Lake, with structured and unstructured device telemetry.
• Advanced proficiency in AWS Redshift, PostgreSQL Aurora, Python, SQL, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, CDKTF, or AWS CDK.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, solve ambiguous technical problems, and drive best practices across teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with enterprise-scale Redshift optimization, Apache Spark, Ray, or end-to-end machine learning pipelines.
• Open-source contributions or advanced AWS and GCP certifications.
