TL;DR
Furniture Designer (Home): Designing commercially successful bedroom furniture collections, including cabinetry, storage, beds, headboards, and upholstery, with an accent on trend research, technical CAD development, and production-ready specifications. Focus on building cohesive furniture ranges, solving joinery and upholstery challenges, and coordinating with buying, merchandising, technology, and manufacturing partners.
Location: Leicester, UK; typically 3 days in the office. Core hours are flexible between 8am and 6pm.
Salary: Β£45,000βΒ£80,000 per year.

What you will do
- Design commercially viable bedroom furniture from trend research and initial sketches through final sample approval.
- Develop cabinetry, storage, beds, headboards, upholstery, wooden finishes, hardware, and fabric details.
- Prepare technical specification packs, detailed CADs, exploded assembly views, and production instructions.
- Collaborate with Buying, Merchandising, Technology, and external manufacturers on pricing, safety testing, and critical path milestones.
- Build cohesive bedroom collections integrating storage, cabinetry, and upholstered elements into the wider home range.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience designing both hard cabinet furniture and soft upholstery for bedrooms.
- Strong knowledge of joinery, flat-pack assembly, ergonomics, fabric behaviour, and furniture construction.
- Advanced Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills, plus relevant 2D/3D design software for CAD and technical documentation.
- Understanding of aesthetics, proportion, finishes, customer needs, and commercially successful high-volume furniture.
- Strong organisation, communication, and collaboration skills for managing multiple projects and supplier relationships.
- A digital portfolio demonstrating direct furniture design and CAD work is required; applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
