Computational Biologist

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid work with 2–3 days onsite per week

Salary: $75,000–$91,500 per year

What you will do

• Build data processing pipelines that convert raw high-throughput biological data into formats suitable for statistical analysis and visualization.
• Perform routine analyses of genomic and other biological data using established computational tools.
• Manage data from public repositories and research collaborators, evaluate published tools, and update pipelines.
• Prepare computational biology sections of manuscripts, verify numerical accuracy, and create tables and figures.
• Support grant preparation by helping define research aims, experimental designs, and data analysis plans.
• Coordinate timelines across multiple interdisciplinary research projects and provide peer-to-peer training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field; a master’s degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, biostatistics, computer science, or life sciences is preferred.
• At least one year of experience with a bachelor’s degree, or no experience with a master’s degree; academic research or scientific authorship may substitute for work experience.
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux and familiarity with Python scripting and statistical programming in R.
• Familiarity with experimental design and modern data analysis methods.
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
