TL;DR
Senior Research Associate, Computational Biology (Bioinformatics/Multi-Omics): Analyzing and integrating genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic datasets to investigate genotype-to-phenotype questions and support de-extinction research with an accent on functional genomics, comparative genomics, and data-sparse organisms. Focus on developing R/Python analysis tools, processing large-scale genomic data in HPC or cloud environments, and validating complex integrative analyses.

Location: On-site in Dallas, Texas, United States. Relocation assistance is available.

What you will do

  • Perform bioinformatics, comparative, functional, and statistical analyses of biological data.
  • Integrate genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic datasets to investigate genotype-to-phenotype relationships.
  • Develop analysis and visualization tools in R and Python using published and custom bioinformatics tools.
  • Process large-scale genomic data in HPC Linux and cloud environments.
  • Maintain electronic laboratory records and prepare reports and presentations for wet-bench biologists and leadership.
  • Design and maintain databases and connect them with visual platforms for data curation and sharing.

Requirements

  • Bioinformatics or computational biology experience, including at least two years in functional genomics, multi-omics, comparative genomics, molecular evolution, or applied statistics in genomics.
  • At least two years of experience with scripting languages, including Python, R, Perl, Ruby, Java, or Bash.
  • Experience handling large-scale genomic data in HPC environments such as SGE, SLURM, or PBS, and/or cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Experience with Git, reproducible notebooks, documented workflows, and database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
  • Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience or a master’s degree in a quantitative or basic science discipline.
  • Ability to work on-site in Dallas, Texas; relocation assistance is available.

Nice to have

  • Experience with RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, and integration of diverse functional epigenomics datasets.
  • Experience with pangenome graphs, whole-genome alignments, gene homology, genomic resources, or vertebrate non-model organisms.
  • Experience calling variants from high- or low-coverage whole-genome sequencing and degraded or ancient DNA.
  • Understanding of CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing technologies.
