AI Engineer / Member of Technical Staff (Healthcare)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; on-site five days per week

Salary: $120,000–$190,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Build production AI applications with Python, LLMs, RAG, and agentic workflows.
• Develop systems that process complex unstructured data and extract actionable insights.
• Design and manage production infrastructure using Terraform or comparable Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Deploy, monitor, debug, investigate, and continuously improve AI systems based on real-world performance.
• Work directly with customers to understand workflows and translate problems into technical solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to identify opportunities for AI-driven workflow improvements.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on Python development experience.
• Experience building and deploying production software.
• Practical experience with LLMs, generative AI, RAG, agents, or related LLM application architectures.
• Experience with Terraform or comparable Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, Git, and GitHub experience.
• Ability to work on-site in San Francisco five days per week.

Nice to have

• Healthcare, EHR, FHIR, or HL7 experience.
• Customer-facing engineering, forward-deployed engineering, or solutions engineering experience.
• AI evaluation, monitoring, or observability experience.
• Startup or founding-engineer experience.
• Open-source contributions.
