Lead Database Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: Chicago (Green St), Illinois, with a hybrid work model

What you will do

• Define the database platform strategy, architecture, roadmap, and operational standards.
• Design, implement, optimize, and modernize enterprise-scale SQL Server and cloud database environments.
• Lead and mentor database engineers and offshore resources while providing technical direction.
• Partner with Engineering, SRE, DevOps, Architecture, and Product Development teams on highly available and scalable platforms.
• Drive automation for provisioning, deployment, monitoring, performance tuning, and operational support, including AI-powered automation.
• Lead upgrades, migrations, cloud transformations, incident response, root cause analysis, and disaster recovery planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years supporting enterprise-scale, mission-critical database environments and administering Microsoft SQL Server.
• 5+ years with AWS Aurora, AWS RDS, Azure SQL PaaS, Azure Hyperscale, and workloads in AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, and driving cross-functional infrastructure or database modernization initiatives.
• Expertise in large-scale OLTP, performance tuning, capacity planning, indexing, monitoring, high availability, disaster recovery, security, and compliance.
• Familiarity with automation, Infrastructure as Code, observability platforms, DevOps practices, and SRE collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud database modernization and migration programs.
• Experience using AI-powered tools to automate database administration and operational workflows.
• Experience building self-service database platforms and platform engineering capabilities.
• Industry certifications in Microsoft Azure, AWS, SQL Server, or related cloud technologies.
