Prompt Engineer (AI)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually

What you will do

• Define organization-wide standards, reusable patterns, and reference architectures for LLM-based applications.
• Design prompt structures, instruction templates, retrieval strategies, and agentic systems with tool use, planning, memory, and multi-step reasoning.
• Lead retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, including chunking, indexing, and reranking.
• Develop evaluation frameworks for prompt quality, agent reliability, and end-to-end task success.
• Build internal tooling and libraries, establish safety guardrails, and collaborate on prompt-model co-design and fine-tuning.
• Review application designs, mentor engineers and applied scientists, lead red-teaming, and optimize latency, cost, quality, and robustness.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant work with LLM-based applications and production launches.
• Deep familiarity with modern LLM APIs, agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and vector databases.
• Strong Python skills, experience designing evaluation pipelines for non-deterministic systems, and knowledge of responsible AI and policy considerations.
• Strong communication, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Public writing, conference talks, or open-source contributions related to LLM application development.
• Experience with multi-agent architectures, complex tool-use systems, and fine-tuning workflows.
• Exposure to customer support, coding assistant, analytics agent, or enterprise software use cases.
• Experience integrating LLMs into systems with strict compliance requirements.
