Senior Software Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Oxford, England, United Kingdom; hybrid or office-based from the Summertown, Oxford office when not working onsite. Travel to and work from client sites and partner locations is required.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable web applications using modern technologies.
• Develop AI-powered, data-centric product features and client solutions with engineers, scientists, designers, and product specialists.
• Own technical delivery from design through deployment and contribute to platform and consulting architecture decisions.
• Improve software quality through testing, documentation, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Participate in Agile planning, reviews, retrospectives, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
• Collaborate directly with users and clients to define and deliver high-impact solutions.

Requirements

• At least five years of commercial software engineering experience.
• Expertise in at least one high-level language such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript, with familiarity with several others.
• Experience designing complex distributed systems for cloud and on-premise environments, including secure and scalable architectural patterns.
• Experience working in an iterative Agile environment with DevOps tools, CI/CD, and software delivery improvement.
• Technical degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent experience.
• Existing eligibility for or ability to obtain UK Security Vetting at SC level is required.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and cloud-native environments.
• Experience with embedded software, FPGA, C/C++, data engineering, UI/UX, or scripting.
• Experience deploying machine learning or AI in production or commercial applications.
• Experience integrating external APIs and systems, configuring networks, or working independently in field environments.

Hiring process

• Initial discussion with the People team.
• TestDome coding exercise followed by a 60-minute interview with two Science & Engineering team members.
• Two-hour coding exercise, 45-minute architecture exercise, and an in-person meeting at the Summertown, Oxford office.
