AI Engineer

Location: On-site in San Jose, California. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to San Jose.

Base compensation: $150,000–$250,000 per year, plus significant equity.

What you will do

• Build AI systems that transform engineering requirements into verified electrical and mechanical designs and manufacturing outputs.
• Develop agents that operate CAD, EDA, and simulation tools, run experiments, diagnose failures, and iterate on designs.
• Create workflows covering component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, mechanical CAD, assemblies, thermal analysis, and electrical and structural simulation.
• Build tool integrations and representations for geometry, connectivity, materials, tolerances, and coupled engineering constraints.
• Design evaluations and feedback models using design-rule checks, simulation results, engineering reviews, and physical measurements.
• Ship agent-generated designs with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams while measuring improvements in design time, hardware performance, and engineering effort.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM-based agents or AI tooling, including context engineering, tool integration, orchestration, evaluation, and failure analysis.
• Strong software engineering skills, especially in Python, with the ability to build reliable integrations and debug complex systems.
• Interest, experience, or academic exposure to electrical or mechanical engineering, or the ability to learn technical domains deeply enough to build useful tools.
• Ability to reason about physical constraints and distinguish plausible designs from verified designs.
• Experience using AI tools to learn and solve new problems, with an evaluation-driven approach to improving system performance.
• Ability to work fully in person in San Jose.

Nice to have

• Experience automating CAD or EDA tools through APIs, scripting, plugins, or GUI interaction.
• Knowledge of schematic design, PCB layout, component selection, power delivery, or signal and power integrity.
• Experience with parametric CAD, mechanical assemblies, tolerance analysis, thermal management, CFD, or FEA.
• Experience with design optimization, constraint solving, model fine-tuning, multimodal engineering reasoning, or hardware fabrication and testing.
