Sr Engineer, Process Controls Automation

Location: Houston, Texas, United States; travel to facilities required, including 30–50% travel and outdoor work in varying conditions.

Salary: $141,300–$172,700 base salary per year

What you will do

• Design, program, configure, test, implement, troubleshoot, and optimize automation solutions.
• Lead capital projects for automation systems and ensure compliance with industry standards and company guidelines.
• Architect and support distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, remote terminal units, and human-machine interfaces.
• Implement functional safety systems, including Burner Management Systems and Emergency Shutdown systems.
• Develop reusable automation scripts, frameworks, smart workflows, and process optimization strategies.
• Lead system integration, documentation, commissioning, incident investigations, and automation cybersecurity initiatives while mentoring technicians and contractors.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant automation experience; 10+ years is preferred.
• Intermediate PLC/DCS configuration, industrial communication protocol, and troubleshooting skills.
• Expertise in process control optimization, tuning, and sequential functions.
• Familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70 standards and willingness to travel 30–50%.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, Foxboro, or DeltaV automation platforms.
• Experience with Burner Management Systems and Emergency Shutdown systems.
• Project management, contractor management, mentoring, and organizational experience.
• Instrumentation, electronic communications, industrial electronics, or a related academic background.
