Senior Backend Developer (Magento)

Location: Remote, United States

Salary: $150,000–$180,000 USD annual base salary

What you will do

• Develop and maintain custom Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce modules from design through release.
• Build GraphQL capabilities and integrate internal and external systems through REST APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, and asynchronous processing.
• Identify repetitive engineering and business tasks and implement reliable AI-powered workflows with validation, logging, error handling, and human review.
• Write unit tests and improve automated testing, quality checks, and CI/CD release workflows.
• Support Shopify development through integrations, apps, webhook handlers, Liquid customizations, and operational utilities.
• Participate in technical design, code reviews, deployments, environment management, and collaboration with frontend, QA, product, and infrastructure teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on Magento 2 or Adobe Commerce and PHP experience, including custom module development and platform architecture.
• Experience creating GraphQL schemas and custom resolvers with attention to authorization, performance, error handling, and data loading.
• Experience building REST and GraphQL integrations, webhook consumers, queues, retries, idempotency, rate-limit handling, logging, and failure recovery.
• Practical experience using AI tools or large language model APIs for workflow automation, structured outputs, prompt design, validation, and application integration.
• Experience with scripting in Python, Node, PHP, or similar tools; PHPUnit or comparable unit-testing experience; and Git-based collaboration.
• Working knowledge of Shopify, Liquid, Adobe Commerce Cloud, the magento-cloud CLI, deployment workflows, and basic CI/CD practices.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI agents or multi-step AI workflows with external tools, APIs, permissions, and approval steps.
• Experience moving AI automation prototypes into production and measuring accuracy, reliability, cost, and time savings.
• Experience integrating automated tests and quality checks into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience diagnosing performance issues involving database queries, caching, GraphQL resolvers, or asynchronous processing.
