Technician I (Molecular Plant Pathology)

What you will do

• Conduct molecular plant pathology experiments and technical procedures involving emerging plant pathogens.
• Develop molecular detection technologies and evaluate the biological risks of seedborne pathogens.
• Collect research data and conduct grower and producer surveys on agricultural preparedness.
• Review scientific literature, adapt procedures to research needs, and solve laboratory problems.
• Order scientific supplies, catalog reference materials, and assist with controlled-environment and analytical experiments.
• Write or edit scientific materials for publication and support technical operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, DNA purification, RNA purification, DNA sequencing, and gel electrophoresis.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.
• Attention to detail, multitasking ability, and a cooperative working style.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with conventional and quantitative PCR techniques.
• Familiarity with next-generation sequencing workflows and bioinformatic analysis.
• Knowledge of plant pathology and molecular diagnostics research.
• Experience using R or Python for data analysis.
