Junior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote from Europe; onsite team events in Warsaw and global offsites.

Salary: $60,000–$70,000 USD per year, with final compensation depending on experience, interview performance, and geographic location.

What you will do

• Build and improve backend services supporting commercial insurance underwriting products.
• Develop data and ML pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Ingest and process documents, third-party sources, and model outputs.
• Contribute to systems that reason over data and support real-world insurance decisions.
• Own features end to end and help design, build, test, and operate production systems at scale.
• Collaborate with full-stack, backend, ML, and platform engineers.

Requirements

• Approximately one year of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems.
• Strong fundamentals in at least one programming language and knowledge of Python.
• Degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Interest in AI, data, and real-world machine learning applications.
• Ability to take ownership, work through ambiguity, solve non-trivial technical problems, and learn quickly.
• Alignment with direct feedback, transparency, high standards, and meritocracy.

Nice to have

• Previous experience with backend services, data pipelines, ML systems, or applied AI.
