TL;DR
Senior Director, Facilities and Automation (Facilities Engineering/Industrial Automation): Leading facility engineering, automation maintenance, capital projects, and asset management across Rent the Runway’s operational network with an accent on safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and data-driven performance. Focus on commissioning complex material-handling systems, optimizing CAPEX/OPEX and equipment lifecycles, solving recurring downtime through root-cause analysis, and developing multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance teams.

Location: Arlington, TX or Secaucus, NJ, United States. The role requires frequent on-site oversight of capital projects, approximately 25–50% travel, and flexibility to work shifts, nights, and weekends as business needs dictate.

Salary: $215,000–$235,000 annual base salary.

What you will do

  • Lead facilities management, equipment and automation maintenance, facility condition assessments, and asset lifecycle programs across the operational network.
  • Establish engineering, maintenance, safety, compliance, documentation, CMMS, and performance-management standards.
  • Advance IoT, building automation systems, smart infrastructure, predictive maintenance, and data-driven operational improvement.
  • Manage CAPEX and OPEX budgets, capital projects, commissioning plans, contractors, vendors, service contracts, and SLAs.
  • Oversee boilers, HVAC, fire protection, conveyors, garment handling, cleaning and finishing equipment, robotic sortation, and other material-handling systems.
  • Lead and develop engineering, facilities, and maintenance teams while driving root-cause analysis, lean improvement, reliability, and technician training programs.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, controls engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive technical experience in manufacturing, warehouse, fulfillment, or industrial environments with leadership responsibility for large-scale equipment and systems.
  • Experience managing complex capital projects, budgets, commissioning, vendors, timelines, and cross-functional technical teams.
  • Expertise in material handling, automation, industrial infrastructure, VFDs, servo systems, HMIs, industrial networks, and equipment reliability.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Bluebeam, or equivalent design tools, plus familiarity with simulation, FMEA, TPM, OEE, Lean/Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including data analysis with Looker, Power BI, SQL, and Excel; commitment to safety, quality, and employee wellbeing.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a technical, business, or related field.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, or Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience in fulfillment center operations, warehouse automation, or reverse logistics.
