Staff Data Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Lisbon, Portugal; legally authorized to work in the EU

What you will do

• Own the architecture and end-to-end delivery of data ingestion and activation workflows, including connectors, transformations, incremental synchronization, and bulk API integrations.
• Design highly available, fault-tolerant, and recoverable data-intensive systems with retries, replayability, backfills, idempotency, and durable workflow execution.
• Lead Snowflake-based data pipelines and data-sharing workflows for analytics products and customer-facing data delivery.
• Establish standards for schema evolution, data quality, observability, testing, and lifecycle management.
• Partner with data science and machine learning engineers on feature generation, feature serving, model inputs, and experimentation infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, design reviews, incident reviews, roadmap planning, and mentorship.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related platform and infrastructure roles.
• Deep experience designing and operating production data pipelines, ETL/ELT systems, or data platforms at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, plus familiarity with Scala or Java.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, S3, Postgres, Redis, AWS, Kafka, Pulsar, Spark, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies.
• Experience with orchestration, batch and streaming systems, data modeling, incremental processing, testing, observability, high availability, and recovery.
• Fluent English and legal authorization to work in the EU are required. Willingness to participate in operational support or on-call work is also expected.
