Coding Consultant Outpatient PRN (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Review medical records and assign, sequence, and abstract accurate diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Code emergency department, ambulatory surgery, observation, injections and infusions, and specialty procedures for a Level III trauma facility.
• Assign discharge dispositions and APC classifications while meeting 95% accuracy and site productivity standards.
• Identify documentation improvement opportunities and communicate coding and reimbursement issues to hospital staff and management.
• Maintain professional credentials and continuing education requirements, including participation in hirify.global-sponsored training.
• Apply AHIMA ethics, HIM policies, sound judgment, organization, and teamwork in a high-complexity work environment.

Requirements

• AHIMA credential such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS, or AAPC credential such as CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC.
• At least 3 years of hospital or coding consulting experience.
• Proficiency in same-day surgery, observation, injections and infusions, ancillary services, emergency department coding, and E/M leveling.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Strong written and verbal communication, remote-work capability, time management, and organizational skills.
• Successful completion of annual HIPAA and other assigned examinations is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with interventional radiology coding.
• Experience with orthopedics, urology, pain management, cardiology, gastrointestinal procedures, and endoscopy.
