Postdoctoral Research Associate - Host Microbe Interactions (Microbiology)

What you will do

• Design and execute mechanistic and translational studies of drug-microbiome-immune interactions.
• Lead foundational research projects and develop scientific independence through primary research manuscripts and fellowship or training grant applications.
• Establish and optimize experimental protocols in anaerobic bacteriology, bacterial genetics, infection and immunity models, and microbiome research.
• Apply molecular microbiology, high-throughput omics, culturomics, and animal models to investigate intestinal homeostasis and gastrointestinal disease.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate rotation students and collaborate with investigators across the research community.
• Participate in seminars, work-in-progress meetings, and career development programs.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related biomedical discipline.
• Experience working with bacterial communities or pathogens.
• Experience with bacterial genetic manipulation and animal models of infection.
• Demonstrated research productivity through manuscripts published during graduate training.
• Strong scientific communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Memphis, Tennessee.

Nice to have

• Experience with animal models of infection or immunity.
• Experience in anaerobic bacteriology.
• Computational or microbiome data analysis experience, including familiarity with R or Python.
