TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace) (SAR imaging and spacecraft hardware): Designing and validating mechanical structures, assemblies, and flight hardware for SAR imaging payloads and satellite subsystems with an accent on SolidWorks modeling, structural analysis, tolerance engineering, and environmental verification. Focus on integrating payloads with spacecraft buses, correlating structural and thermal models with test data, and performing hands-on assembly, integration, and testing.

Location: Redwood City, California, United States; primarily onsite with hybrid work options. The role is subject to ITAR requirements and requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the necessary U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Company

hirify.global develops radar and SAR imaging technology, spacecraft payloads, and satellite subsystems for advanced insights into the physical world.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical structures and assemblies for SAR imaging payloads and satellite subsystems.
  • Create 3D models, manufacturing drawings, design guides, and Interface Control Documents in SolidWorks.
  • Perform structural, tolerance stack-up, and thermal analyses to verify launch-load, stiffness, fit, and functional requirements.
  • Support vibration, thermal-vacuum, and EMI/EMC environmental verification for SpaceX launch acceptance.
  • Collaborate with RF, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate payloads with spacecraft bus subsystems.
  • Coordinate procurement and fabrication with vendors and machine shops, and perform hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of prototype and flight hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably in aerospace or spacecraft systems.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling, drawing creation, and simulation.
  • Experience with structural FEA for quasi-static, random-vibration, and sine-burst launch-load verification.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and manufacturing drawings for machined and fabricated parts.
  • Must satisfy U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spacecraft or payload environmental verification, including vibration and thermal-vacuum testing.
  • Thermal modeling and analysis experience, including spacecraft thermal-control techniques such as MLI, heaters, radiators, and thermal straps.
  • Experience correlating structural or thermal models with test data using Python or similar automation tools.
  • Experience interfacing with launch-vehicle providers on payload integration requirements.
  • Hands-on AI&T experience with flight hardware, avionics, and flight harnessing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative hardware, software, and aerospace engineering environment focused on technically ambitious work.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including a fully employer-paid medical plan.
  • Paid parental leave, 19 vacation days, 10 sick days, and 11 company holidays.
  • 401(k) with employer matching, commuter expenses, and a daily lunch stipend.
  • Audible subscription, Claude Pro access, relocation support, and hybrid work flexibility.
  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity with employee ownership.

Hiring process

  • Interviews are conducted via Google Meet, with a potential onsite visit to the Redwood City office.
  • The typical process takes approximately 3–5 weeks.
