Staff Backend Software Engineer (Loki)

Location: Remote for candidates located in Australia or Singapore

Base compensation in Singapore: SGD 167,000–209,000 per year, plus potential bonus, equity, and other benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems for the Loki and Grafana Cloud databases teams.
• Own the reliability, performance, and availability of production services.
• Drive projects from ideation and requirements gathering through delivery, operations, and iteration.
• Develop new features for multi-tenant distributed systems running on Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
• Contribute to open-source observability projects and participate in design discussions.
• Mentor teammates, collaborate across the team, and participate in on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Solid experience with at least one programming language, such as Go, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
• Experience delivering software projects from requirements and design through customer release.
• Experience developing cloud software or working in systems engineering.
• Experience writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software.
• Independent working style, strong communication, customer focus, and a pragmatic approach to complex problems.

Nice to have

• Low-level development for databases, storage layers, or query engines.
• Experience with Kubernetes, microservices, distributed systems, infrastructure as code, or SRE operations.
• Experience using Grafana or Prometheus in operational, on-call, hobby, or homelab environments.
