TL;DR
Antenna Intern (Satellite Communications) (RF/Antennas): Designing, building, and testing high-performance antenna systems for current and next-generation satellite payloads with an accent on electromagnetics, RF component integration, and anechoic chamber validation. Focus on solving antenna design challenges, measuring components with RF test equipment, and co-designing systems with mechanical, thermal, and payload engineers.

Location: San Francisco, United States. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status is required to comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations.

Base pay: $29 per hour.

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates advanced satellites and secure satellite communications networks for commercial, government, and military customers.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and test antenna systems for current and next-generation satellite payloads.
  • Use advanced design tools to develop high-performance communications antennas with on-orbit flexibility.
  • Work with vendors to design and procure antenna and RF components.
  • Validate component and system performance through anechoic chamber testing.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, structural, thermal, and payload systems engineers.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a four-year university.
  • Fundamental understanding of electromagnetics, antenna fundamentals, impedance matching, transmission lines, and circuit matching.
  • Experience using vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal sources.
  • Ability to solve engineering challenges in innovative and creative ways.
  • Experience with CST, HFSS, or TICRA, plus scripting with MATLAB or Python.
  • Must hold U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status.

Nice to have

  • Experience with 3D printing, including Direct Metal Laser Sintering or Fused Deposition Modeling.
  • Experience with link budgets and system calculations such as EIRP, noise figure, and G/T.
  • Experience designing waveguide components, including OMTs, MUXes, diplexers, filters, or polarizers.
  • Experience with reflectors.
