Machine Learning Scientist I (AI)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts; hybrid schedule with three days in office Tuesday–Thursday and two remote days Monday and Friday

Salary: $125,000–$145,000 annual base pay

What you will do

• Own the data science and machine learning lifecycle from conception and prototyping through testing, deployment, and business impact measurement.
• Develop and scale machine learning methods and quantitative models for core business problems.
• Integrate algorithmic solutions into technical platforms serving customers at scale.
• Analyze large datasets to uncover insights and provide guidance for business decision-making.
• Collaborate with ML scientists, software engineers, and business teams to build maintainable, scalable, and debuggable solutions.
• Explore open-source tools and support potential scientific publications in data science and machine learning.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of relevant corporate experience, including internships or co-op experience.
• Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, economics, physics, robotics, or operations research.
• Proficiency in structured programming, including Python, with experience in SQL, PySpark, Docker, GitHub, GCP, and PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Knowledge of machine learning, statistics, regression, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work in the Boston hybrid schedule with three required office days per week.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with large language models, GPT, BERT, Transformers, RAG, and LLM fine-tuning.
• Experience with NLP, recommendation systems, reinforcement learning, deep learning, and traditional machine learning techniques.
• Experience with data visualization, CI/CD, containerization, version control, and scalable data pipelines.
• Experience delivering machine learning projects from conception to production and maintaining deployed systems.
