Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional office work or offsite attendance may be required.

Salary: $200,000–$235,000 USD annually, plus potential bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Frame, prototype, and deliver machine learning and agentic solutions for ambiguous trust and safety problems.
• Design, build, and productionize batch and real-time ML pipelines covering feature engineering, training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Develop abuse behavior detection systems and specialized models for fraud, identity, account integrity, and related trust use cases.
• Design and iterate on AI agents, including orchestration, tool interfaces, and quality guardrails for autonomous trust decisions.
• Build benchmarks, evaluation harnesses, and instrumentation to measure model and agent decision quality.
• Collaborate with product, data science, engineering, fraud intelligence, operations, and frontline defense teams to validate solutions and measure impact.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of industry experience applying machine learning and productionizing models at scale.
• 1–2+ years of hands-on experience with LLMs, GenAI, agentic frameworks, orchestration, and evaluation.
• Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with Scala, Java, or an equivalent language.
• Experience with ML best practices, feature engineering, model selection, A/B testing, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and end-to-end data pipelines.
• Experience evaluating ML or LLM systems using benchmarks, ground truth, offline and online metrics, and calibration.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in computer science, machine learning, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with multimodal models for vision, documents, or speech.
• Exposure to trust and risk domains such as fraud detection, anomaly detection, identity, or account integrity.
• Experience with large-scale software architecture, test-driven development, incremental delivery, and deployment practices.
