Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required.

Salary: $200,000–$235,000 USD annually, plus potential bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Frame, prototype, and deliver applied machine learning and agentic solutions for trust and safety problems.
• Design, build, and productionize batch and real-time ML pipelines, including feature engineering, training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Develop abuse behavior detection models and specialized models for fraud, identity, and account integrity use cases.
• Design and iterate on AI agents that automate trust decisions, including orchestration, tool interfaces, and quality guardrails.
• Build benchmarks, evaluation harnesses, and instrumentation for measuring model and agent decision quality.
• Partner with product, data science, engineering, fraud intelligence, operations, and frontline defense teams to validate solutions and quantify impact.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of industry experience in applied machine learning, including building and productionizing models at scale.
• 1–2+ years of hands-on experience with LLMs and GenAI, including agentic frameworks, orchestration, and evaluation.
• Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with Scala, Java, or an equivalent language.
• Experience with ML best practices, feature engineering, model selection, A/B testing, and algorithms including gradient-boosted trees, neural networks, transformers, and deep learning.
• Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, data engineering, end-to-end ML pipelines, evaluation methodology, and large-scale software architecture.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in computer science, machine learning, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with multimodal models involving vision, documents, or speech.
• Exposure to trust and risk domains such as fraud detection, anomaly detection, identity, or account integrity.
