Staff Clinical Engineer (Surgical Robotics)

Location: Boston or Raynham, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

Base pay: $109,000–$174,800 per year.

What you will do

• Provide clinical and technical expertise for early-stage concepts, feasibility assessments, prototype development, and clinical translation.
• Define clinical needs, patient journeys, product maps, quantitative requirements, and system-level opportunities with product development and clinical stakeholders.
• Lead clinical hazard analyses, procedure-specific risk maps, use-error assessments, and clinical workflow evaluations.
• Collaborate with systems, quality, human factors, medical affairs, marketing, and external partners on design inputs, test methods, validation, and preclinical studies.
• Gather clinician and customer insights through observation studies, surgeon sessions, demonstrations, and structured feedback activities.
• Analyze complaints and field data, support commercial education, and provide on-site support during initial commercialization and critical product issue escalation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, biomedical, electrical, robotics engineering, or a related technical discipline; a master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in medical device R&D, including digital technology in the operating theater, early-stage technology incubation, and innovative device development.
• Experience with surgical robotics and biomechanics, as well as design validation, process development, and regulatory compliance.
• Track record of supporting complex projects from concept evaluation through prototyping, initial validation, and initial clinical use.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage projects independently, and communicate with surgeons, executives, regulatory bodies, customers, and external development partners.
• Ability to work from the Boston or Raynham office at least 3 days per week.
