Lead Reporter, Venture Capital

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; onsite five days per week

Annual base salary: $120,000–$150,000; target annual bonus: 10%

What you will do

• Lead the editorial direction, daily execution, and quality standards of the VC and emerging technology newsletter.
• Produce concise, original reporting and analysis covering venture capital news, data, and market trends.
• Source and edit contributions from reporters and analysts while maintaining a consistent editorial voice.
• Collaborate with research analysts, data analysts, and data visualization specialists on insightful journalism.
• Build and maintain a deep network of venture capital and technology sources.
• Attend major conferences and relevant events in person, with limited business travel as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 8 years of financial journalism experience, ideally covering venture capital or startups.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
• Strong ability to write clearly and concisely with minimal editorial rewriting.
• Ability to analyze data, identify insights, and explain complex financial and technology topics.
• Must work in the San Francisco office five days per week.

Nice to have

• Agenda-setting coverage of venture capital or technology and an established network of industry leaders.
• Experience developing independent story ideas and managing multiple deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
