Senior Software Engineer (Big Data)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; hybrid work schedule from the Reston office

Annual base salary: $164,300–$222,300, with potential discretionary bonus and stock awards for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Design, develop, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain systems for collecting and analyzing large network, application traffic, DNS, and web content datasets.
• Build object-oriented software for storing, processing, analyzing, and reporting on big data using Java, Python, and open-source technologies.
• Develop and optimize data-processing jobs to meet demanding operational and service-level requirements.
• Define testing approaches and success criteria with architects and developers, covering data quality, processing, interfaces, performance, and system verification.
• Build automated testing, daily build, deployment, and CI/CD workflows.
• Lead incident response and troubleshoot issues involving virtual environments, networking, kernel configurations, and distributed systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 12 years or master’s degree with 10 years of relevant experience, including 8+ years of software development in a Unix environment.
• Expert programming ability in Java, Python, or an equivalent language.
• Experience with Big Data applications and jobs, including Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Spark, and MapReduce.
• Experience with performance testing and tuning, data migration, RDBMS, time-series or NoSQL databases, and Linux.
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Jenkins, plus private or public cloud environments and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience testing systems from functional specifications and working in agile, highly productive teams.
