Senior Software Engineer (Autonomous Driving)

Location: Hybrid in South San Francisco or Atlanta; remote in Boston, Florida, or New York City; Colorado and Seattle are also listed.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 annually in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle, plus equity.

What you will do

• Develop and implement behavior planning algorithms for autonomous vehicles operating in dynamic airport environments.
• Design, implement, and maintain efficient, scalable C++ and Python modules for the behavior planner.
• Contribute to software architecture and continuous improvement of planning systems.
• Test and refine planning algorithms in simulated environments and real-world scenarios.
• Analyze system performance, reduce latency, and implement improvements based on data and feedback.
• Coordinate with autonomy and other engineering teams and maintain documentation of code, algorithms, and system designs.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of industry experience in autonomous driving, robotics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in modern C++ and object-oriented programming.
• Strong Python skills for prototyping and testing.
• Deep understanding of behavior planning, including state machines, behavior trees, and probabilistic planning.
• Experience with path planning methods such as A*, RRT, or optimization-based approaches.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with ROS or ROS2.
• Knowledge of machine learning for behavior prediction and planning.
• Experience implementing high-frequency replanning for dynamic environments.
• Expertise in D*, Rapidly-exploring Random Trees, optimization techniques, or probabilistic models.
• Master’s degree or PhD focused on planning, optimization, or control theory.
