SQL DBA II (SQL Server)

Location: Remote, based in Florida; approximately 10% in-person collaboration, team meetings, or company events. An in-person interview may be required before hiring.

What you will do

• Administer and maintain SQL Server environments across production, staging, development, AWS RDS, and on-premises infrastructure.
• Support MySQL and PostgreSQL platforms with consistent standards for reliability, security, performance, backup, and recovery.
• Monitor database health, optimize performance and capacity, and resolve complex production issues using diagnostic and observability tools.
• Design, implement, test, and validate backup, restore, high-availability, and disaster-recovery strategies.
• Partner with Software Development, Data Engineering, QA, and Infrastructure teams on query and schema design, migrations, CI/CD, deployments, and post-deployment validation.
• Automate database operations and improve monitoring, alerting, incident response, root-cause analysis, and technical documentation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server transactional database administration experience in production environments.
• Strong SQL Server expertise in configuration, security, permissions, maintenance, backups, restores, troubleshooting, and operational support.
• Strong experience with AWS services including RDS, Secrets Manager, S3, and CloudWatch.
• Advanced knowledge of performance analysis, execution plans, Query Store, indexing, wait statistics, blocking, deadlocks, concurrency, and transaction behavior.
• Experience with Always On Availability Groups, backup and restore strategies, RTO/RPO planning, T-SQL, PowerShell, Git-based database CI/CD, and observability platforms.
• Working knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL administration plus an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python or Bash.
• Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL on AWS-managed services such as Amazon RDS or Aurora.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code, database provisioning, data integration, migration, or replication.
