TL;DR

Focus on managing duty-to-warn situations, responding to urgent incidents, maintaining confidential activity records, and coordinating services with installation and school personnel.

Location: Virginia Beach, VA 23460, MFLC NAS Oceana; onsite work at military installations, DoDEA and community schools, youth programs, and other assigned locations.

Salary: $59,922–$100,280 per year, depending on location, skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors.

What you will do

  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling, assessment, action planning, referrals, and follow-up for children and youth of military service members.
  • Support school staff, youth programs, summer camps, parents, installation personnel, and military Points of Contact through consultation and guidance.
  • Deliver behavioral health, wellness, and parent-training presentations and participate in health fairs and installation activities.
  • Maintain confidential and anonymous activity records through smartphone or web applications and establish links with community resources.
  • Manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocols.
  • Participate in supervision, training, quality initiatives, critical-incident response, and special assignments.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field, behavioral health, or social work.
  • Current unrestricted independent counseling license issued by a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, a U.S. territory, or commonwealth.
  • At least two years of post-licensure clinical experience and experience working with children and youth.
  • School-assigned counselors must have prior work experience in a school setting and meet MFLC CYB criteria in child and adolescent development or psychology.
  • U.S. citizenship and fluent English are required.
  • Ability to work in schools and military installations, travel across indoor and outdoor locations, respond to urgent situations, comply with site-specific requirements, and hold a valid U.S. state driver’s license.
