TL;DR
R&D Software Engineer (AI) (PHP/Python, Laravel, LLMs): Prototyping and building backend services and experimental features for construction camera, streaming video, and jobsite imagery products with an accent on rapid iteration, microservices, and AI integration. Focus on integrating LLMs and vision-language models, converting uncertain model output into reliable service contracts, and working with camera hardware APIs and streaming video.
Location: Atlanta, Georgia, US; hybrid office schedule with the option to work remotely up to 2 days per week after onboarding.

OxBlue, part of Hexagon, provides construction time-lapse and live-streaming video camera services for construction owners, general contractors, and industry professionals.
What you will do
- Rapidly prototype web applications and systems to evaluate technologies for upcoming products.
- Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to shape new product features.
- Design and build backend microservices in Laravel and PHP, including API contracts, queue workers, webhooks, and health checks.
- Implement and maintain Python backend services and jobs in Linux environments.
- Integrate LLMs and vision-language models with jobsite imagery and video, converting model output into reliable service contracts.
- Work with camera hardware APIs and streaming video, and prepare specifications and tickets for backend and infrastructure engineers.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience building and shipping production backend software.
- Strong PHP experience with a modern framework, preferably Laravel, plus Python experience.
- Fluency in SQL and relational database design.
- Comfort working with Linux, HTTP APIs, queues, and distributed services.
- Hands-on experience integrating third-party APIs and creating tests.
- Strong problem-solving, technical writing, documentation, and specification skills; using LLMs, AI agents, and harnesses is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with IP cameras, ONVIF, RTSP/HLS, or embedded field devices.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or Loki.
- Vue.js experience for prototyping interfaces.
- Experience with CI/CD, Docker, and package management.
