TL;DR
Contract Staff Software Engineer - Performance Graphics (C++, Rust, WebGL): Maintaining and improving Firefox’s graphics area across rendering, compositing, images, canvas, and WebGL with an accent on cross-platform debugging, code health, and multithreaded optimization. Focus on fixing regressions, maintaining tests, diagnosing GPU-related issues, and supporting a large mature codebase across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

Location: Remote, Canada

Hiring range: CAD 145,800–186,172 for Canada Tier 1 locations; CAD 131,400–154,600 for Canada Tier 2 locations.

What you will do

  • Maintain Firefox’s Graphics area, including rendering, compositing, images, canvas, and WebGL.
  • Fix bugs, regressions, incoming issues, and test failures.
  • Diagnose and resolve graphics problems across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
  • Perform code reviews and routine code upkeep.
  • Help keep the graphics backlog and regressions under control so senior engineers can focus on performance.

Requirements

  • Strong C++ and/or Rust skills.
  • Knowledge of graphics frameworks and GPU architecture.
  • Strong debugging and optimization skills in a multithreaded codebase.
  • Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership in a large, mature codebase.
  • Ability to work remotely from Canada.

Nice to have

  • Experience with shader languages.
  • Mobile or Android development experience.
  • Open-source collaboration experience.
